 Introspection

I woke up this morning thinking about who I am as a person. It's something that I've been thinking about the past couple of days. Sometimes it's hard to be so introspective especially if you are being completely honest with yourself. Recently, I've had to re-evaluate myself and recognize personality traits and characteristics that were unbecoming and identify some that are positive. Self discovery is a bitch! What it boiled down to is there were/are alot of things I don't like about myself. So, I can either be someone I don't like or I can change. I opted for change.

I've also been contemplating how I became the person I am now. I know that I'm not the same person I was in my late teens/early 20's. This all got me thinking about where I picked up personality traits. I've taken traits that I admired about some people -- parents, friends, other relatives and incorporated them into my personality while excluding traits that I dislikeed. Meanwhile, I neglected to look at myself to eliminate or reinforce traits. The answer I came up with is that I am who I am both on purpose and by accident. But for now, I am going to be who I am on purpose because I am going to choose who I am.

More to follow later...got to study for a linear algebra exam.

 Root Canal Day

Aaaah....the day I'd been dreading all weekend. Not because it was Monday but because I had to have a root canal. I've never even had a filling. It came and went without fanfare. It was no big deal. I was worried for nothing. Guess it was more fear of the unknown. The worst part was the shot in the mouth to numb my chin. My appointment was at 2 pm and it's now about 4:30 pm and the numbness is gone and I'm left with a very little bit of soreness. I'll be able to eat dinner as normal. My husband was going to make me some soup and jell-o. That's very sweet, but now unnecessary. Ben even IM'd me to see how I was doing....I thought that was nice. It's nice when your friends remember crap like that...

I was really thinking that I'd be out of commission after the 'o canal work was done and was afraid that I'd be behind all week because of it. I have a linear algebra exam tomorrow and now will be able to study and hopefully finish my operating systems assignment. The assignment is done in that when I hit the F4 key it prints out a message saying "This is working." Now I just need to get it to print out the two dimensional array instead, print out the source code and turn it in by Wednesday. I've got an Artificial intelligence assignment that's due on Thursday night. I can't even solve the problem myself so it's good that the requirement is to write a LISP program to do it for us. Here it is: There are three cannibals and three missionaries traveling through the jungle. They come to a river that they must cross. There is a boat that can only carry two people at a time and the boat must be manned for the returned trip across the river to the original side. If there are more cannibals than missionaries on either side of the river, they will eat the missionaries. Find a sequence that will get everyone across the river safely.....If anyone knows the answer to this, your comments would be appreciated. Not the coded solution of course.

My question is what if there are more missionaries than cannibals on either side of the river, do they Bible thump the cannibals, give them venereal disease or something like that??? Seems a little prejudice that the cannibals would eat the the missionaries but there would be no repercussions on the cannibals if they were outnumbered by the missionaries....hmmmm. Could I object to this homework on moral grounds? Probably not...

 Root Canal

Tomorrow at 2 pm I have an appt the first of two root canals I have to have. I am totally freaking out because I've never so much as had a cavity or filling. And I may have to give Ben a raincheck on the lunch that I owe him for buying my lunch last Wednesday. Or I could give him five bucks and call it even.

Onto happier subjects...I rediscovered the joys of beer Friday night. We met for dinner with Steve's, mom, sister and two of his brothers for his one brother's birthday. Mostly his family makes me tense or least his mom does. I never really feel at ease around her and don't feel like I can be myself. She hasn't liked ANY of her children's spouses though she claims to like me. And she's a bit of a spazoid. The cook put green peppers on our pizza instead of black olives that we ordered (I HATE GREEN PEPPERS!) and she was going on about how we should have gotten it for free. They did comp the green peppers though and I just picked them off. Otherwise it was one of the most perfect pizzas we've had there. Anyways, back to the beer. I don't usually drink since I can't seem to handle my alcohol. Well, I handle it...a little too well maybe :)Then we went with Steve's sis and his bro (the one whose birthday it was) and went to another bar. I had a few more brewski's. I was finally able to shut my over analytical brain off and just let my hair down and have a good time. I even smoked a cigarette or two or five. There goes my one year of non smoking. The good thing is that I had no desire to smoke Saturday or today so I think it was a drinking thing.

Saturday night we ordered gyros and rented "Oceans Twelve." The gyros were killer and the movie was not bad. Maybe we should've rented "Ocean's Eleven" and watched that first. It had been too long and certain things didn't make sense. The cinematography was really choppy too. But it's all good when your looking at George and Brad. Wanted to rent "Flight Plan" but it wasn't in and then was let down because we didn't have a back up. Usually we go to the video store w/ out any ideas and browse til we find something that looks good. I can never remember movie titles of one's I see advertised that interest me.

 Goats

It's Thursday evening! YAY!! Going to my parent's tonight for din din. Steve is a big fan of ham and beans and so my mom called yesterday and invited us. I asked her if I could bring McDonald's for myself. She just laughed at me. I will eat ham and beans but they aren't my favorite.

I was hoping to blog more this week but was unable to find the time. If this turns into a weekly thing then oh well. Life goes on. I've been hooked on this webcomic "Goats" (www.goats.com.) I've been reading through the archives which goes back to 1997 and that's taken most of my spare time. So far, I'm up to like January of 2000. I'm so hooked because one of the characters is a computer programmer and there are alot of references that only a fellow geek would get. The premise of the comic is these two guys (Jon and Phillip) living together in New York City with a satanic chicken, Diablo, and an over-sexed goat, Toothgnip. And yes, Toothgnip is spelled with a 'g.'Alot of the strip takes place in a pub...'nuff said there. There's also a forum that's entertaining.

 My First Blog Post

Okay,I figure that my life is about average, that I have so much spare time and also that there aren't nearly enough blogs out there in cyberspace so here we are - at my weblog.

As of 3:45 pm I've completed the second week of my very last semester of college! Yay for me!! The end is in sight and now I'll be looking for a job. Not yay for me. But I am looking forward to not being a broke college student. Money, money, money! Right after I pay off my student loans.

Not much else exciting is going on today. I get to go buy a new TV. The one in the den has been on the fritz the last couple days. The picture would be all scrambled for few minutes when it was turned on then it would be fine. Now it won't turn on at all. So it's off to Walmart tonight. I am putting aside my moral qualms with Walmart so I can buy a cheap TV set. It's VERY VERY VERY important there is a TV in the den because it's my domain. It's my little piece of this house. It is also where my son's Xbox is hooked up. And the Xbox keeps him out of my hair!

It's really nice outside and I should be out riding my motorcycle. Seems I've turned into a pansy over the winter...not wanting to get it out for a short ride.
